What is High Blood Pressure?
High blood pressure, also known as HBP or hypertension, is a serious condition that can lead to coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, and other health problems.
Knowing your blood pressure numbers is important, even when you’re feeling fine.
The blood pressure numbers are written with the systolic number above or before the diastolic number, such as 120/80 mm Hg.
This blood pressure is considered a normal value. If your systolic number is 120–139 and your diastolic number is 80 – 89, you have prehypertension.
If your systolic number is 140–159 and your diastolic number is 90–99 you have stage 1 HBP, and if you have 160 or higher and your diastolic number 100 or higher you have stage 2 HBP.
